Healthy New Year for the Family with YMCA Membership Drive {Giveaway}

How is your 2014 going? Are you setting resolutions? Making mini goals? Or intentions for this year?


With many resolving to be healthier versions of themselves and even for those who are not, the YMCA is a great place to start! With 10 locations in the Greater San Antonio area, the Y offers state of the art facilities, youth sports, group exercise classes, Childwatch hours and much more.

As a busy mother myself, I have given all the excuses in the book. But what I do know is that my children learn by example. If they see me take the time out to excersize, or participate in outdoor activities, they will see it is an important and fun part of life and will want do the same.

The YMCA of Greater San Antonio is suggesting these 5 healthy tips to get started:
1. Get moving - Commit to being active a little each day. Set small goals and gradually work your way to longer, more difficult goals. Don’t push yourself too hard – slow and steady wins the race! 
2. Choose wisely - If you are in the market for a new gym to call home, make sure to look for a facility that offers excellent staff support in an environment where you feel comfortable. The Y recently launched their signature Fit Path program specially designed to get you started on your fitness journey. This program combines one-on-one staff support with the convenience of modern technology. This state-of-the-art program is complementary with a Y membership. 
3. Lift weights - Weight lifting blasts calories during your workout, super charges your metabolism and tightens up your body. Seek out a gym like the Y where trainers are readily available to get you started on a safe and effective weight-lifting program. 
4. Try new things - Trying new classes and exercise equipment will keep your workouts fresh and fun! At the YMCA, a variety of group exercise classes – from boot camp, to Zumba, to yoga – are offered at convenient times all week long. Access to most classes is included as part of your membership, so trying new classes is simple and affordable. 
5. Workout with a friend - Working out with a friend helps you stay motivated and holds you accountable, but more importantly, it’s fun! At the Y, members who refer a friend will receive a free month of membership – so, you will save while getting healthy with a buddy.

In the month of January, the Y is making it easier to get healthy and waiving it's joining fee! They are also hosting a Facebook sweepstakes for a free monthly membership!

We have recently enjoyed the Davis-Scott YMCA on the Eastside of San Antonio, with indoor swimming lessons this fall. In fact, we were so pleased with the instructors and facility that we took two sessions back to back! 

If I had a membership, it would have been the perfect opportunity for me to get in a little workout during their class time. And I could have taken advantage of the member discount for classes!
